Scarlett is trying to find the height of a dam. She stands 90 meters away from the dam and records the angle of elevation to the top of the dam to be 26º. Scarlett's height is 1.65 meters, so the height of the dam is (ANSWER HERE) meters.
@AngusV
HII!
you got a picture?
There is no picture, I am afraid.
lol silly boy i meant "did you draw a picture?"
Ooh, no.
let me know when you have one then it should be pretty obvious what to do hint: it involves tangent
Uh, well, I don't exactly know how to draw it...
lets see if i can help

you are looking for \(h\) \[\tan(26^\circ)=\frac{h-1.65}{90}\] which is really another way of saying multiply \[90\times \tan(26^\circ)\] and add \(1.65\) to the result to get \(h\)
I do not have a calculator and I do not know how to do this by hand.
now you are really being silly a) you cannot find \(\tan(26^\circ)\) by hand b) of course you have a calculator you have almost an infinite number of calculators how did you get to openstudy?
I do not have a calculator. The place I am at does not supply hand held calculators that I know how to use...
i am 100% sure you are on the internet right now, since you are asking questions in openstudy
Yeah, but.. wait, are there online calculators? :/
lol
here is the one i like, there are millions of others http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=90*tan%2826%29%2B1.65
