Usually what I would do when it comes to these problems is I look at the problem first. In your case its -103 = 6x + 17. So you have to replace the variable (x) with one of the answers to see if it gives you -103. So pretty much just get a calculator and see which number fits in with the problem make sure you use parenthesis for the variable or youll get your answer wrong. So pretty much just like this below: 17+6(-20)=-103 it cant be a,b, or d because they don't give you -103 as your answer. so there ya go.
