What is a distance determination? How is this done?

@undeadknight26

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this in terms of the distance determination test for firearms/weapons? Or another topic? I think I can help but I need to make sure I have the right topic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's Forensic Science.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distance determination is basically a series of tests and observations that scientists use in order to determine how far away the nose of a firearm was away from an object when it was shot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One example of these tests could be a simulation where a similar environment of the scene of the original shot is setup, and a test shot is fired. Scientists can look at a variety of factors such as the amount of smoke emission, size of entry hole or any residue left, etc. These observations and various test are how distance determination is done/calculated

Even though this is all about firearms ans guns, this all has to do with the forensic field. I did a little research on it
