Is "reading" confined to just extracting the meaning from words on a page or is it something more? Do we "read" when we can tell by our best friend's eyes that her day is not going well? Do we "read" when we look at the sky to see if it will rain or not? Do we "read" when taking a peek into the oven to tell if the lasagna is finished baking or needs a little bit more time?

Before you label yourself as a good, bad, or average reader, consider what it means to read. Then ask yourself why you might be a really good reader in one arena, but not in another.

Do we "read" when we can tell by our best friend's eyes that her day is not going well? Yes because your are "reading" your friends eyes to see how her day is.

Do we "read" when we look at the sky to see if it will rain or not? Yes we read when we look at the sky to see if it will rain or not you "read" the clouds to see if it is going to rain.

Do we "read" when taking a peek into the oven to tell if the lasagna is finished baking or needs a little bit more time? Yes we read when taking a peek into the oven to tell if the lasagna is finished baking because we "read" what the toppings look like so we can tell if the lasagna is done.
