Help with Algebra I
Male and female high school students reported how many hours they worked each week in summer jobs. The data is represented in the following box plots: two box plots shown. The top one is labeled Males. Minimum at 1, Q1 at 3, median at 10.5, Q3 at 14, maximum at 21. The bottom box plot is labeled Females. Minimum at 0, Q1 at 15, median at 18, Q3 at 21, no maximum shown Identify any values of data that might affect the statistical measures of spread and center. The females worked more than the males, and the female Q3 equals the top of the range. The spread and center are skewed due to the fourth quartile missing with the females. There is a significant outlier at the low end for the females. The males have a high outlier, and the females have a low outlier.
can you attach a pic of the box plot?
Sure.

Not sure what that is...
do you mind just attaching a file?
Lol.
^_^ much better
Get Jays extension so you can see images. :P
well you can see that there is no 4th quartile for females
and the 2nd answer choice states that
So the females could not have worked more than the males?
Does that mean A & B are eliminated?
and they have a low outlier as well
D can be eliminated
So it is the third option, correct?
and A is eliminated as well
Can you tell me how to get the outlier? that confused me in the lesson.
outlier is the extreme of a data let's say you have the data 0 1 2 3 4 5 9 8 6 50 50 is an extreme because it's way higher than the other numbers so it is an outlier
I'm not sure whether it's B or C
So, a number that is distant from the other numbers?
yes really far away
Thank you. :)
yw ^_^
I believe it is C though. It looks like the males worked longer.
yes C seems like a better choice
