FAN, FAN TESTIMONIAL, AND MEDAL!!! Choose the equivalent system of linear equations that will produce the same solution as the one given below. 6x + 2y = -6 3x - 4y = -18 A) 12x + 4y = -12 15x = -30 B) 8x + 4y = -4 14x = -10 C) 6x - 8y = -36 -6y = -42 D) 6x - y = -15 3y = 9

The first two choices show that y has been eliminated. Eliminate y and see if you get one of those answers. If not, move on to the last choices where x has been eliminated and see which one of those is correct.

A and D are correct when I plug the values back in, so it must be one of those. @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

1. Multiply the first equation by 2 2. Add the result to the second equation. 3. Now you have eliminated y. 4. Is the result either choice A or choice B???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's A, right? @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yes
