OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

I've been getting messages lately that have been advertising a certain site with the initials P.A . Not sure if this is a new problem or i'm just late for the invite. Anyway, I have a suggestion to this problem: Filter messages of links

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

There should be a filter on the pms, filtering things such as: -curse words -links -etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Yeah, that's is peeranswer, a FAKE, WANNABE & STUPID version of OpenStudy! :D Remember to spread the word about this!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not that bad :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

Report Block Ignore There is nothing else you can do sorry!

pooja195 (pooja195):

Or you can pm a mod actually :P

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

@pooja195 Filtering the pms still seems like a good idea to me >.>

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yeah, links are pretty important. Maybe block certain links like tinychat links, P.A links, and links like that.

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

Yes.

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

What @sammixboo said.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

There has been a lot of posts with external links lately which isn't allowed on OS. I saw an advertisement for an etsy page last night. Anyway, PeerAnswer is a wannabe clone of OpenStudy, Facebook, and Twitter mashed up together to form a super social site. I do agree that some links should be filtered or even banned such as Peer Answer, Etsy, Tinychat.. etc. Only educational sites like Math Overflow or Math Stackexchange should still be allowed (sometimes I do attempt my work on Math Stackexchange and I find it easier to just copy and paste the link rather than retype everything on OS)

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

Then let's start a petition to filter any external links that have not proved useful to Openstudy.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Why should we start a petition? Just ask @Preetha ... If she likes the idea, it will get done. :)

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

@TheSmartOne It's just a petition. :P Not a riot. If we get enough people to agree on the subject then we can ask a mod. :) ( This is how we got free cheese sticks on tuesdays at my old public school, a bunch of kids signed my petition and I turned it in to the principle... made his day.)

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Links that have not been proved useful? That mean every link sent, regardless of a persons question or not, would have to be approved by a Moderator, which could be anywhere from 60-100 per subject per day. I would love to do that job, if I got payed. :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

no one gets payed on OpenStudy (talking about mods and ambis) (don't know about Preetha and the few devs/admins that we have)

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

I know, that's the point. It would be crazy for that to happen.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Personally, I think they sould just add it to the bad word filter and munge it.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_wingspanens It's true that links are already included in the filters, it even changed the wiki link...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm IP BANNED BY URI

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yeah, possibly put 'peeranswer.com' in the black list, same with 'tinychat.com' and other external chat links.

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

@veryamerican Are you rooting for the other team, PA? Are you not aware of how great the term OS is? With OS you got Windows, Linux or Mac, and OpenStudy. With PA, you just have Potential Adware, or PeerAnswer for short.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

lol @chrisdbest that's funny. PeerAnswer is super sketchy that it won't even let me read their terms of service or about us page. Moreover, PeerAnswer was created this year (I can tell by the copyright date) while OpenStudy has been around for 5 years and counting. You know what PeerAnswer stands for? Pretty Average XD!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Open Study stands for Overall Superb ;p

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Thanks @UsukiDoll

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Not tryna be rude @TheSmartOne , but OS stands for Open Study, Open Study doesn't stand for itself. It stands for MILLIONS!!!

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

Dang, that's deep.

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Yeah, lols @Afrodiddle

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

But am I right, @Afrodiddle @sammixboo @Usukidoll @TheSmartOne @EclipsedStar ?

OpenStudy (afrodiddle):

2Cheesy4me Ima stay out of this :P Gotta go punch a wall, not into sentimental stuff.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

@chrisdbest yes you are...but @TheSmartOne is making a statement that OS not only stands for Open Study but it is Overall Superb because a few years ago, it was just Open Study that offered free tutoring. Most tutoring sites will charge people by the hour at high rates that no one can afford. Also, while a filter will be a great idea, we need to expand that particular filter besides the word "peeranswer" or the link to that garbage site. What if some users become creative like PAnswer, PeerA, or P.A? What I'm suggesting is that anyone who dares to post links or mention anything about PA to have their entry not only automatically deleted but their OS account suspended for a day. We, the members at OS, had enough of this. And if this continues, a permanent ban is a good idea. At least that's how I would handle it. I know it sounds harsh, but seriously enough with that site. Right?

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Yeah, a week rather than a day ban sounds more like it.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

Ok. First violation should be a week suspension... and then permanent ip ban.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

OS's IP bans only prevent someone from making any more new accounts, not stop them from going on the site (suspensions work for that).

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

but suspensions now result in temporary ip bans until the suspension is over...
