Simplify. (x+3)^2
zarkam21 (zarkam21):
x^2+6?
zarkam21 (zarkam21):
or 2x^2+6
OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

9
zarkam21 (zarkam21):
so 3^2=9
OpenStudy (sloppycanada):
YUP!!!!!
So your equation goes something along the lines of x^2 +/- x +/- # = 0 Fill in the blanks.

Simplify (x+3)2 + 4x
Evaluate : (x+3)2 = x2+6x+9
Factoring x2+10x+9
(x+9) • (x+1)
(x + 9) • (x + 1) = 0
Solve (x+9)•(x+1) = 0
Solve : x+9 = 0
Subtract 9 from both sides of the equation :
x = -9
Solve : x+1 = 0
Subtract 1 from both sides of the equation :
x = -1
OpenStudy (sloppycanada):
No. you're not moving anything across an equal sign. so there's no need to change the postive and negative.
x^2 + 4x + 9
OpenStudy (sloppycanada):
@Albany_Goon The question isn't asking us to find "x". It's asking us to rearrange the equation.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok so then its 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because she has to write the cubic polynomial on the left hand side in standard form rite?

x^2-4x+9=0 ? is this correct?
OpenStudy (sloppycanada):
@zarkam21 No, not quite. you seem to have the -4x wrong. It should be
\[x^2+4x+9 = 0\]
zarkam21 (zarkam21):
Thanks @sloppycanada
