why might ancient peoples have used real animals as inspiration for some of the mythical creatures in their myths?

@Keigh2015

OpenStudy (keigh2015):

To explain why some animals are around that are around now and also to explain why certain things happened. Hopefully this helps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean mythical creatures like mermaids, werewolves, and bigfoot. How were real animals an inspiration for those mythical creatures back in ancient times when these myths were created.

OpenStudy (keigh2015):

People and fish for mermaids, wolves and humans for werewolves, and the yeti for bigfoot I have to go for now but i hope this helps a little

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Were yetis real?

OpenStudy (keigh2015):

Yes because there is DNA proof that states it is real

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anything else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like another reason to why they are an inspiration

OpenStudy (keigh2015):

Not that i can think of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anything?

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

I would assume using real animals as inspiration for mythical creatures was basically the fan fiction before fan fiction. Some crazies we all like "Bird really did have feelings for lizard." or "So all the other animals are dead and turtle and cat need to repopulate."

Thanks

The very first religions were Pagans which often worshipped the natural world, I think you'll find more answers if you take a look into Native American religions and mythologies
