OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in the question option "A" has dangling modifier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Note that a dangling modifier is something that changes the setting of the sentence, or in other words, what is expresssed in the sentence to a whole new situation. In A, "upon hearing the fire engines, the building was evacuated" connects two completely different ideas together. In other words, hearing of the fire engiens triggers evacuation. However, in all other cases, everything expressed is sequential, meaning that chain of action flows without much divergeance. It is natural that one is hit by a foul ball upon taking the field, and upon operating the machinery one must use caution, and upon bestowing the awards mayer awared the participants are all sequentual. In other words, A, the situation jumps from one to the other. Therefore it is A where dangling modifier is used, and in all other three cases the flow of action is all natural. Good luck. Robert136
