please help! What is the difference between composition and decomposition ? can you use them to find the area of a polygon?how?
@mathmate ??????
Taking a complete guess at the definitions. I would guess that decomposing is breaking up an irregularly shaped polygon into shapes that are easy to find the area of like rectangles, triangles, or trapezoids, etc. Maybe composing is where you add extra area to make an easier shape, then subtract it to get the total area. Let's say you want to find the area of this shape.|dw:1435764988234:dw|
I think decomposition would be something like breaking it up into 2 rectangles and 2 triangles |dw:1435765327225:dw|
then composition would be adding 3 triangles to make 2 rectangles, finding the area of the rectangles then subtracting the area of the triangles to get the area of the shape|dw:1435765388139:dw|
