What is the focus and purpose of writing a rough draft?

One would write a rough raft so as to reflect on his essay structure as as well as his type of diction to examine whether his outline matches his writing. As such rough draft helps a writer to make corrctions where appropriate so that he/she can proceed to write a final copy of his essay, where his mistakes are ideally all addressed from his rough draft.
