a rectangle has a perimeter of 125 cm the short side is 5 write an equation and solve it to find the length of the longer side of the rectangle

You can do 125 = 10 + 2x. Basically, this is showing the 2 sides of the rectangle that are 5 (5 + 5 = 10), then showing how the other 2 sides (being the same), are equal to whatever is left. To solve it just subtract 10 from both sides, and divide by 2 to get x. (x is 1 of the unknown sides)
