What will be the perimeter and the area of the rectangle below if it is enlarged using a scale factor of 4.5?
A rectangle is shown. The length of the rectangle is labeled as 8 cm, and the width is labeled as 6 cm.
Perimeter = 46 cm, area = 131.25 cm2 Perimeter = 126 cm, area = 972 cm2 Perimeter = 46 cm, area = 972 cm2 Perimeter = 126 cm, area = 131.25 cm2 got anything?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
use implicit differentiation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Is that when you set it equal to y and then derive it?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
find the derivative with respect to x term by term
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So I would get 2x=lnxy first correct?

OpenStudy (welshfella):
you treat y as a function of x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Im confused.
OpenStudy (welshfella):
the 2x is correct but you use the Chain and product Rules to differentiate the right side
OpenStudy (welshfella):
2x = (1/ (xy) * (x dy/dx + y)
now you make dy/dx the subject
OpenStudy (anonymous):
What do you mean by make it the subject? Like solve for that?
