The clubhouse has a water tank from which hikers fill their water jugs before walking the trail. The tank is a 5-gallon cylindrical container with a height of 2 feet and a radius of 4 inches. Alex fills his 1-gallon jug from the clubhouse tank before going on a hike. If the 5-gallon tank was full, what was the height of the water in the tank after Alex filled the 1-gallon jug?

The first thing you would have to do is find what portion of the water is taken away. If originally there was 5 gallons, and one is removed, then the water level should drop by 1/5. If the tank is 2 feet, or 24 inches tall, then the water would be at 1and3/5 feet or 20and4/5 inches. Sorry if this explanation was not what you were looking for. :)
