Explain the difference between using the tangent ratio to solve for a missing angle in a right triangle versus using the cotangent ratio. You must use complete sentences and any evidence needed (such as an example) to prove your point of view.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the tan and cot ratios?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan is opp/adj and cot is adj/opp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right, they're reciprocals. basically everything will be the same except the side lengths will be flipped. And when you're solving for the angle tan is easier because most calculators don't have to a cot button

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok. thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so. you basically get the same answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because it's the same angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you.
