The shaded area is a trapezoid with the 2 by 2 square cut out.
\[\frac{1}{2} (6+3) 10-4 = 41\]

Yes.
then u would find the area of the rectangle and subtract the area of the shaded area to find the area of the non-shaded area, right? @robtobey
16 x 8 = 128 128 - 41 = 87 so, 87 ft^2 is the non-shaded area, right? @robtobey
