depends

probs animist when they were stolen, you know worshipping mountains and the like, superstitions even more primitive than Christianity and Islam and ....

but christianity when they had been brainwashed by their, in turn, brainwashed slave masters

islam was invented about 650CE, and by then it had spread around the mediterranean but only really penetrated North Africa. Brainwashing of the rest of Africa had not yet happened or perhaps coincided with the slave trade and full on brainwashing of Africans

so i'd say the particular flavour of nonsensical brainwashing in this case is Christianity.....one god yet 3 gods and no polytheism!!!!!!
