If a jet is traveling 200 mi/hr due east and the side wind is 40 mi/hour south what degree and direction will the jet be traveling??
I think it is being moved 11.3 degrees down so 360-11 =349 degree which the direction would be south east

Not sure if this is correct because east is 0 degrees north is 90, West is 180 and south is 270. If I was going south, I would do 270 - 11 but I am going east, which is at 0 degree so does that mean I really am just going -11 degree and not 360-11 ??

Note: the wind would tend to push you south
correct concept
Yes, but I am going east, which is at 0 degree but east could be at 360 degree
then it would be southeast
Yes I know it will be southeast but is the degree -11 or 349??
use the quadrant information
the resultant direction is east:- there are 2 vectors involved here the wind direction South and the direction the plane must go in order to make the resultant due east
Correct welshfella
So I go counter clockwise? so it will be 349 degrees
