What's the difference between an endonuclease and exonuclease & what are their functions?

exos can only "chop" away from the outside of a strand (ie. end of the strand), endos cut inside the strand, cutting it into pieces (e.g. can cut a strand in half). their functions are to cut phosphodiester bonds
