Determine the type of boundary line and shading for the graph of the inequality -4x - y less than or greater to -2 Choose one answer. a. Dashed line with shading on the side that includes the origin. b. Solid line with shading on the side that does not include the origin. c. Dashed line with shading on the side that does not include the origin. d. Solid line with shading on the side that includes the origin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so dashed line a or c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y ≥ 2 - 4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the orgin is (0,0) ?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yesss, origin is always (0,0). :) To check if the side where the origin lies is shaded or not, sub in (0,0) into your equation and see if it is a solution or not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 ≥ 2- 0 ??????

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yepp, exactly like that. So y ≥ 2 - 4x, and we plugged in (0,0) ... so 0 ≥ 2 - 0 0 ≥ 2 Is this true or false?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

false!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yeep :) And what happens if it is false? Do we shade the side with the origin or the other side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Other side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yyeeesss! ^_^!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

WAIT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

God you make it so easy. I appreciate the help very much!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

y ≥ 2 - 4x look at your sign :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wot o:

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

≥ means shaded line!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

*solid line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so d!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

xD now i think you're a bit confused.. okay so first we know that the sign is ≥ meaning a SOLID line Then we tested (0,0) and found that it was false when we subbed it in and that hte origin is NOT included so it must be the other side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i thought d was not including. My bad D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B is d answer :) ?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

it's aaalll good. Yes "b" is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whew. - Virtual high five -

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you, Do you know anything about ordered pairs + inequalities?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

*high five* ^_^! hmmm maybe? I could take a look LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following ordered pairs is not a solution to the inequality y less than or greater to -3x - 5? Choose one answer. a. (-4, 0) b. (0, 0) c. (-3, 0) d. (-2, 0)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

oh this is basically what we did before.. But this time instead of plugging in (0,0)... we plug in the other coordinates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And if it is false then that is the answer?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yepp.. but quick question. when you say "less than or greater to" which symbol are you referring to? like... \[\le \ge > < ? \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://gyazo.com/72e8703d46478d64907d0d6baa4c46a0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just copy and paste this. thats how it came out haha

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

ohh okaaayy! that sign is called less than or equal to LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know i looked at it after and was wondering how to write what i copied and pasted down on paper.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like copy+paste pls :c

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

haha i read it and just stared at it like O.O ?? anywaaays, have you solved the problem yet? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slowly am o:

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

okey dokeyyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

that's corrrect! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yey :3

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

LOL see, it isn't as hard as you think :) Good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following ordered pairs is a solution to the inequality y less than or greater to -2x + 8? Choose one answer. a. (0, -4) b. (5, -1) c. (7, 0) d. (9, 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are great help <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the last one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y ≤ -2x + 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so just plug it all in

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yyeep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1 ≤ -10 + 8 -4 ≤ 8 0 ≤ -14 + 8 1 ≤ -18 + 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are the 4 i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i just realised that it is b.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jesus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@butterflydreamer

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

remember we're trying to find one which is TRUE this time because we want a point which is a solution. so, y ≤ -2x + 8 a. (0, -4) -4 ≤ 0 + 8 -4≤8 b. (5, -1) -1 ≤ -2(5) + 8 -1≤ -10 + 8 -1 ≤ -2 c. (7, 0) 0≤ -2(7) + 8 0 ≤ -14 + 8 0 ≤ -6 d. (9, 1) 1≤ -2(9) + 8 1 ≤ -18 + 8 1 ≤ -10 Which one is true? This will be your solution!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

is -1 less than or equal to -2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a my bad. i mixed my questions up on my paper haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wrote them in order and mixed up a and b

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yeesss a is coorrectt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is all i had left for my review thank you !

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

wooohhoooo~ No problem ^_^!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One more question though, do you play any video games o:?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

hahaha no i don't xD
