x^2-10x+25-y^2 factoring trinomials i need someone to walk me through i do not just want the answer

OpenStudy (egbeach):

\[x ^{2}-10x+25-y ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (amoodarya):

hint : \[a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-5)(x-5) but i dont know how the y factors in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-5+y) (x-5-y) @dylan0698097

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but wouldnt the x have to multiply against the y?

OpenStudy (wil476003):

Are u sure there is a y in it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i am positive, the equation reads exactly how i wrote it.

OpenStudy (wil476003):

Thats weird because everything i found said it is an error becuase of the y or is the minus supposed to be an equal sign

OpenStudy (wil476003):

I have noclue otherwise im sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just double checked and the equation is right but i still dont know how to factor it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the only thing i can think would be (x-5)(x-5)+(-y+0)(y+0) but i dont know if i can do that

OpenStudy (wil476003):

That makes the most since to me
