1.You get your first paycheck and notice that a percentage of your money has gone to taxes. Your employer explains that everyone has to pay taxes. Why do you have to pay taxes? What would happen if you did not pay taxes? What type of taxes do you currently have to pay and why?

You have to pay taxes simply because of social benefits and services you get while you are living inside that city (law and order, public electricity, public cleaning department, etc..). Moreover, you are oblige to pay taxes because of moral reasons (the more you earn the more you have to contribute to the state financing). If you do not pay taxes, then you have to pay additional fines, but it depends particularly on which country you are considering. lastly, there are several kind of taxes (on salary, social services, housing, health, public services, cars, etc..) because you are using a service (e.g. car) on the public territory.
