When accumulation of greenhouse gases(like CO2 and methane) grows, more heat gets trapped into the atmosphere and as a result, few heat escapes backs into the space and it heat ups the earth surface.

@xcrawfishX @petiteme It is not really that "heat" is being trapped or lost. Greenhouse gases are able to absorp large amounts of energy from light. Especially infrared light. This absorption of energy causes atomic level vibrations, thus increased heat. The more molecules of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the more energy, and the increasing temps occur.

Another part of this is whether or not the light from the sun is reflected or absorp. Greenhouse gases are very good at absorping light, especially infrared. If all of the light from the sun that hit the earth was absorped, earth would be a pretty toasty place. Probably so hot there would be no liquid water and we would all be dead. If I recall correctly, around 35% of light is reflected and does not contribute a significant amount of the thermal energy on earth.
