I need help solving a matrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here it is

OpenStudy (freckles):

\[4X+A=B \\ 4X=B-A \\ X=\frac{1}{4}[B-A]\] just find the difference of matrix B and A then multiply by the scalar 1/4

OpenStudy (empty):

Lol great name by the way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[X=\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }\left( 8 -3\right)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And so on?

OpenStudy (freckles):

well that would be the first entry of X So you could say: \[X_{11}=\frac{1}{4}(8-3)\]

OpenStudy (freckles):

buy yeah in general you have \[X_{ik}=\frac{1}{4}(B_{ik}-A_{ik})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if i'm not mistaken, one solution for X is [5/4 3/4]?

OpenStudy (freckles):

how do you end up with a 1 by 2 matrix?

OpenStudy (freckles):

oh do you mean just row 1 for X? because X is gonna be a 3 by 2 matrix and there is only one solution for X.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah just one row. That's all I had completed at the time. I have the rest of the answer. Thank you very much, I really appreciate your help

OpenStudy (freckles):

np :)
