Our scientific body of knowledge has been growing since the dawn of time, but it was when Socrates began to apply philosophy to the study of human things, including human nature, the nature of political communities, and human knowledge itself that things began to change. He criticized the older type of study of physics as too purely speculative, and lacking in self-criticism.  So C would be the answer.
