OpenStudy (gentorr):

The "Massacre of St. Bartholomew" occurred when c) Huguenots were killed by Catholics. This happened in Paris, which was a largely Catholic city in a largely Catholic country, which had big tensions between Catholics and Protestants. The Huguenots, a branch of Protestants, were assassinated and experienced mob violence after a Protestant noble married into the Catholic Medicis noble family. It is thought they were behind the violence.
