Hello @afowlkes65 Welcome to Openstudy..!! Dichotomous keys are used to identify the organisms and arrange them according to their ancestry... Dicchotomous simply means the division of cell into two branches in the shape of Y. The lower part of Y is the main branch that divide into two--- Dichotomy. Lower plants like Bryophytes and Pteridophytes show dichotomous branching to grow.. these branches bear fructifications to increase their populations..!! Happy studying.. at Openstudy.. :-)
