if a/2b =3/5, and 4b/3c =1/7, then a/c =?

It will be easiest to understand if you follow along in your own writing. It gets confusing on the computer :) The first thing I did was write all of the stuff down in a way that I could understand it. I used cross multiplication so that... 6b=5a and 28b=3c After that, I isolated the variables "a" and "c" so I got... a=6b/5 and c=28b/3 Next, I put all of it into one equation. I know that I can do this now because there is only one variable: "b" and the equation would look something like this... (6b/5)/(28b/3) Immediately I changed it to multiplication by the reciprocal... (6b/5)x(3/28b) If you multiply straight across, the "b"s cancel and you can multiply the numbers and you're left with... 18/140 Which simplifies to... 9/70 I hope this helps :)
