Select all of the terms that are "like." a)xy 2 b)2xy c)x 2 d)-xy e)2x 2y f)xy
that means pick the terms that have the same variable part
so a b c e or d f ? @freckles
I don't know what it is exponent and what isn't. But you are just looking for the same variable part. That is 3x^2*y doesn't have the same variable part as -2x*y because x^2*y isn't the same as x*y.
?
okay whats the variable in this situation? just as like a example
I'm saying I can't tell what is an exponent or not above. I gave you an example of unlike terms. \[3x^2y \text{ and } -2xy \text{ aren't like terms because } x^2y \text{ isn't the same as } xy \] However, \[3xy \text{ and } -5xy \text{ are like terms because } xy \text{ is the same as } xy \]
oh okay
