Choose the answer based on the most efficient method as presented in the lesson. If the first step in the solution of the equation 2x - 8 = 5x + 3 is "subtract 2x," then what should the next step be? subtract 5x add 8 subtract 3

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

Subtract 3!

OpenStudy (chrisdbest):

After 1st step is done, your left with -8 = 3x + 3

When you solve these kinds of problems, you want to get the x values on one side, and the integer values on the other. If you subtract the 2x, it will look like this: \[\large \sf -8=3x+3\] That means you want to get the 3x alone by subtracting the 3 over.

thanks you @LegendarySadist
