hi, can somebody explain me the 3 domains of life?
Hello @thevi ! Welcome to OpenStudy. Do you know what the three domians of life are?
The whole life is divided into three domains namely, Archae, Bacteria and Eukarya. Archae: These are the prokaryotic unicellular organisms which have their membranes made up of branched hydrocarbon chains attached to glycerol by ether linkages. These are able to live in harsh conditions like high temperatures, pressure, salinity etc. Bacteria: These are also prokaryotes but their membranes are made up of unbranched fatty acid chains attached to glycerol by ester linkages. Cyanobacteria or Blue green algae is an example. Eukarya: These are modern unicellular and multi-cellular organisms which have eukaryotic cells i.e nucleus and other membrane bound organelles. Humans are example of eukarya. You may like to visit the following website for further reading and understanding on domains. http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/alllife/threedomains.html
Thank you very much. It helped me a lot and I'll visit the web site
