The table below shows the number of hours some college athletes in two states spend on indoor sports each week: State A 7 9 5 4 25 21 6 6 8 State B 14 12 10 13 15 14 11 15 16 Part A: Create a five-number summary and calculate the interquartile range for the two sets of data. (6 points) Part B: Are the box plots symmetric? Justify your answer. (4 points)

do you know how to do this

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

Population size:18 Lower quartile (xL): 6.75 Upper quartile (xU): 15 Interquartile range (xU-xL): 8.25

thanks

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

It's not symmetrical either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you justify that uts not symmetrical

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

it's negatively skewed, because the lower quartile is farther from the median than the upper quartile.

your the best

@TylerDaPro almost none of that is correct. It asks for a 5 number summary. The five numbers you're looking for are minimum - lowest number first quartile - median of all numbers less than the median median - middle number 3rd quartile - median of all numbers greater than the median maximum - highest number You can get them after you put the numbers in order or use this calculator http://www.alcula.com/calculators/statistics/dispersion/ You have 2 sets of data, so there will be 2 five number summaries. Do the calculation for state A, then do it again for State B.
