OpenStudy (abymartinez15):

Determine the length and midpoint of the segment whose endpoints are (–15, 9) and (–4, 11). A. length = 11.18, midpoint = (–5.5, 1) B. length = 11.18, midpoint = (–9.5, 10) C. length = 26.17, midpoint = (–5.5, 1) D. length = 26.17, midpoint = (–9.5, 10)

OpenStudy (freckles):

midpoint just find the average of the x values and the average of the y values the average of two numbers can be found by adding those numbers and dividing by 2 (you know since there are two numbers)

OpenStudy (freckles):

for example the average of the x's is given by (-15+(-4))/2

OpenStudy (freckles):

the length between the endpoints can be found by using the distance formula

OpenStudy (freckles):

\[d=\sqrt{(x_1-x_2)^2+(y_1-y_2)^2}\]

OpenStudy (abymartinez15):

So after i finish solving for the formula I can get my answer or I have to do more?

OpenStudy (freckles):

the thing called d will give you the length when pluggin in the points the average of the x's and the average of the y's will give you the midpoint

OpenStudy (freckles):

that is what your question ask to find is the midpoint and the length between the endpoints

OpenStudy (abymartinez15):

ok thank you :D
