Not sure if it's already known and is going to be fixed, but I found a typo on the landing page. @sleepyhead314
I've seen that too, and if you're looking for past openstudy questions, but you're not logged in, you will see a bunch of online advertisements. :/
you'll have to go to a search engine like yahoo or google first and type something like "openstudy factor" click on any question and massive online advertising is everywhere .
Yeah, that's true. xD
I was like what just happened?!!?!?! The question and answer has shrunk so much and then ads... ads everywhere. It's too much.
Maybe it's a compensating matter...lol! >.<
but.. online advertisement doesn't generate a lot of money when it's clicked... the pay out is worse than regular advertising on the newspaper. On top of that, there is also people using AdBlock as well.
We can't control users that use AdBlock, but...yeah, it's true. However there has to be a reason why there are more ads on the cache pages.
1. The design is a crime, it is like the classified ads section of a newspaper. 2. If find the worst property of the design is that the video at the top of the page autoplays. (Well not really for me, since I use NoScript, but that is the default behaviour which is rather annoying.)
@Algorithmic @UsukiDoll @EclipsedStar Your complains have been heard from above. Preetha would like to redesign the "search landing page" What suggestions would you have? (ads are a must, sorry) but perhaps a placement so that it would not be as obtrusive?
Maybe the Youtube video would only play if the person clicks on the video (like other news sites), and not play automatically? I don't really mind all the ads (doesn't really bother me too much).
I agree with @Algorithmic. When I went to the page through a search engine it does look like an online newspaper filled with ads. I know that OpenStudy needs those ads to generate at least some revenue because operating a website with their own servers is crazy expensive, but it doesn't help when an entire page is clustered with so many at once that it becomes unbearable to read the real content which was a past question from x amount of years ago. I remembered searching on OpenStudy without being logged in and it was simple. Maybe that page should have certain ads about OpenStudy's QH services and some ads. As for the video, yes it does autoplay, so that needs to stop.
Maybe a slideshow of the site. Or like a sneak peek inside it.
We are working on that page. Yes, it does bring in pretty much all our revenues. If you folks would start subscribing in droves or using Qualified Helpers, well we would have more ways to make money. But for now, this is what keeps the OpenStudy engine humming. Anyone who uses adblockers for OpenStudy is not a friend (-:. But having said that, yes, we are going to make some changes to it. As usual you are ahead of the game. #SmartPeopleOnOpenStudy
I'm not sure if slideshow would be necessary since we are talking about searching past openstudy questions from a year or two ago which is kind of like a sneek peak because you get to view the question and see how users answered it before signing up. The problem is most people aren't subscribers. Also, more users aren't using the Qualified Helpers due to the quality control (some sessions weren't too good and I had to save one QH out of a problem at one point) or the lack of availability at certain after hours. Just like after 2 AM my time, there is only 1 moderator.
@Preetha you might want to check this link out as @Kash_TheSmartGuy started a new post about adding merchandise to the emporium which will also generate revenue. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/55a5db05e4b0564dd2db1690

Algorithmic heads up, a beta is app should be available in the coming days... (when preetha responds so I can make it official xD)
A beta OS Android app*
Had to follow you as I can't pm you unless you pm me first on the mobile app LOL
Use Bootstrap for the layout in the landing page, and the non-registered search landing page. Bootstrap is a highly responsive framework that is great for creating static pages, such as landing pages. Highly responsive means the page will look good in all screen resolutions. (Basically the page will resize elements to smaller sizes, and move things around to compensate for the smaller screen. This is great on mobile devices.)
What the tryed to do instead was a very poorly coded Mobile.css
@confluxepic also noticed that "Code of Conduct" over here: http://prntscr.com/7ti744 redirected to just openstudy.com and not the Code of Conduct link...
Yep.
