A student wants to report on the number of movies her friends watch each week. The collected data are below: 0, 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 14 Which measure of center is most appropriate for this situation and what is its value? Median, 1.5 Median; 3 Mean, 1.5 Mean; 3 PLEASE HELPPP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's asking for the measure of the center which is what a median measures

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now if it asked for an average of the data then you would go with the mean

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

Which would be the best way to measure it?

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

There is 2 mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since its asking for the middle value median is your best choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to find a median?

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

i tried the question is should i count the zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

what I got was 2.75

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

for the mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you want to find the median not mean

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

no the median im having trouble

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a really simple technique to find a median

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all you do is cross out the first number then the last then you repeat over and over till you reach the middle

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

please help I answered the question wrong with the median being 1.5? But I dont have the formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh im so sorry i didnt read the first line... i feel dumb lol we are finding the mean

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

which would be better to answer the question? No problem I'm having troubles tooo : (

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if you said that you picked median 1.5 and that was wrong then it has to be mean 3. The wording on this question does make it a little confusing on which one they want lol

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

I know

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

But when I tried for the mean I got 2.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did too but its closer to 3 rather than 1.5 and the two median choices are both wrong due to process of elimination so median 3 is your best choice.

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

Thanks
