What is the length of the wood that is needed to replace AD?

@welshfella

OpenStudy (welshfella):

use trigonometry take the big triangle tan 45 = AB/BC = AB/14 solve for AB

OpenStudy (welshfella):

then find the length of DB in the bottom triangle tan 30 = DB/14 solve for DB

OpenStudy (welshfella):

finally AD = AB-DB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I find out what AB and DB are tho?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

tan45 = AB / 14 cross multiply:- AB = 14* tan45 grab your calculator and work it out

Thank you
