. Rocco wants to buy an authentic professional football jersey of his favorite player. He has one coupon for 30% off and another coupon for $30.00 off. If the jersey costs $90.00 before the coupon, which coupon should he use to get the bigger discount?

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Well, first, just looking at it, do you have any gut feeling on which discount seems better to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30cash

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

You are probably right. To be sure we would need to check what 30% off would be. Obviously if it were 100% off we wouldn't need to pay a dime, so sometimes percentages are better.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

It's a pretty painless calculation: 30% is just 0.30 as a decimal. Then, we simply take 0.30 times 90.00. This is the same as 27. So, we can see that you were correct. 30% is the same as 27 cash. So 30 cash would be the better discount.

Yea that's what I got thanks...

Nice work!
