What is the slope between the following points: (8, –1) and (–7, 4)?

OpenStudy (teddyiswatshecallsme):

Do you know what the slope formula is? For calculating the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got it. the y2 minus y1 over x2 minus x1 i googled it

OpenStudy (teddyiswatshecallsme):

Okay good. so (8, -1) is your first pair of coordinates so that would be your y1 and x1 (-7, 4) would be your second pair of coordinates,so that would be your y2 and x2 - Go ahead and calculate your slope. Remember the coordinate pairs go in alphabetical order, (x,y).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be 1 over negative 3 once you simplified it. before that it was 5 over negative 15

OpenStudy (teddyiswatshecallsme):

Correct!
