please help me asap! Solve for x: 5 − (x + 5) > −2(x + 4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify the equation and you will get 5-x-5> -2x-8 clean it up and you will get x>8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much you are a life saver!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

although wouldn't it be 5-x+5>-2x-8 then +2x +2x then 5+x+5>-8 then -10 -10 So to conclude x>-18 would that be right and i know im the one who needed help but would negitive 18 be right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the negative has to be distributed to the 5 as well so 5-(x+5)=-2(x+4) distribute everything to get rid of the parenthesis 5-x-5>-2x-8 i cleaned it up and got -x>-2x-8 +2x +2x x>-8 ohh oops guess i forgot the negative in my first answer sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was doing this on a really messy piece of scrap paper so i guess that kinda messed me up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh thank you i get it now! sorry about that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its alright im glad to help!
