OpenStudy (summersnow8):

2) A cyclist and her bicycle (combined mass of 75.0 kg) apply a force of 34.2 N. If the frictional force is -23.5 N, what will be the acceleration of the bicycle (in m/s2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The total force is the vector sum of all forces. Frictional force is opposite to the driving force. Ftotal = 34.2N-23.5N From newtons II law: Force = mass * acceleration you can get Force / mass = acceleration You know the total force and you know the mass. So you also can know the acceleration.
