Find the area of the figure
Here are two ways of doing it: 1. Divide the figure into 3 rectangles. Find the area of each rectangle and add them together. 2. Find the area of the green figure as if it were a full rectangle with no white part missing. Then find the area of the missing white part and subtract from the large green rectangle.
Do these two methods make sense to you?
they do .I feel as if the second part would be quicker and easier
I agree. Let's do the second method. The large green rectangle is actually a square with side 5. What is the area of a square with side 5?
25
Great. The small missing square inside has side 2. What is the area of a square of side 2?
4
Great. What is 25 - 4 ?

There is your answer. Good job!
Actually, now that I saw the figure more carefully, this is the only way we could have done this problem with the given info. We were not given enough info to find the areas of the three rectangles that add up to the green area.
it was super easy. thanks !
Great. I'm glad you understood it.
