Isaac is making sandwiches for a group of friends. He needs 3 ounces of meat for each sandwich.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part A: Isaac is not sure how many sandwiches he will be able to make. Write an expression with a variable that represents the amount of meat Isaac needs for his sandwiches. Identify what the variable represents. Part B: If Isaac has 18 ounces of meat, how many sandwiches can he make? Create an equation and show all work to solve it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes thank you Solo (:

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Ok, lets do it together:) We will name the amount of meat ounces, x. And the number of sandwitches is y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K im ready.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So, if you have y number of sandwiches, then you will need three times as many ounces (x) of meat. (because you need 3 ounces per sandwich) This way we can model the function `y=x•⅓` Where x is the number of ounces of meat, and y is the number of sandwitches.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

now plug in 18 for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, right

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So, with 18 ounces of meat, he can make 6 sandwiches.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

good job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you still helping me or not? @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You are done, aren't you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I thought were going to help me make the equations?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I helped you to model the function for the sandwiches. Then you plgged in x=18, to find y=6 (i.e. 18 ounces of meat= 6 sandwiches)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

There isn't anything more to this problem./

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see thanks sorry i didn't realize it was that simple
