Why does being colonial, (many celled), help the Volvo to survive better?

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner I had to go do something but volvox function as a colony and each individual cell each has the two flagella allowing them to move easier and they roll like a ball around. They work together sort of life a beehive doing their job for the good of their survival. They also look extremely cool under a microscope but I haven't had much time to study them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that is okay! I understand so there function of having 2 flagella help them survive because each tiny cell in the daughter colony contains 2 flagella and that helps it move around??

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Each individual cell has two flagella, together as a unit they use their flagella to move around much like a ball does.
