Thomas collects dimes and quarters in his change jar. If he has 6 more dimes than quarters, and the total amount of money in the jar is $30.00, find the number of each type of coin in the jar.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

set up 2 equations --> 0.1d + 0.25q = 30 --> d = q + 6 use substitution ( replace d with "q+6") ---> 0.1(q+6) + 0.25q = 30 multiply equation by 100 to get rid of decimals 10(q+6) + 25q = 3000 can you solve for q?

OpenStudy (clara1223):

@dumbcow yes I can! thanks.
