1. Consider eight, eight-cubic centimeter (8 cm3) sugar cubes stacked so that they form a single 2 x 2 x 2 cube. How does the surface area of the single, large cube compare to the total surface area of the individual eight cubes? Report your answer as a ratio.

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

im totally lost on how it wants me t do this

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Note:Numbers are lil diff.

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

A cube has 6 faces. The SA of a 8cm³ cube is therefore 6 x 8cm² = 8cm² The total SA of 8 cubes = 8 x 8cm² = 64cm² right so far

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

6 x 8 = 48

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

oops ok

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

big cube 1 face is 2*2 SA is 6 x 4cm² = 24cm² 24:48 1:2 would that be right?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Aye dunno...@AaronAndyson come back and finish this ._.

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Total Sa of 8 cubes = 64cm^2

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Maybe 24:64

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

oh ok i forgot to do that thanks :)
