when it is asking "how much will each girl have?" it is implying that they would have an even amount. now if Edna had $5 and Jill had $3, then to make it even Edna would have to give Jill $1, but she gave Jill $5 so multiply the #'s in the ratio by the amount Edna gave Jill. you should get the ratio 25 to 15. now take 5 from Edna's amount($25) and add it to Jill's amount($15) and you should get the ratio $20:$20. and there you go
