Suppose the airport is at a point called O. |(Also suppose the this is not anywhere near the North or South Poles.) After 3 hours: 

The first plane is 
505 mph x 3 hours = 1515 miles 
North of O. 

The second plane is 
565 mph x 3 hours = 1695 miles 
South of O. 

Therefore, the total distance between them is 
1515 miles + 1685 miles = 3210 miles 
Which means they are 3200 miles apart after 3 hours.
