x - 9 = -6x + 5

Mehek (mehek14):

add 9 + 5

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

Well, step one is to isolate the variable :) So get 'x' by itself on one side of the = sign :) 1) x - 9 = -6x + 5 (what you do to one side, you MUST do to the other!! \(IMPORTANT\)) x -9+(9) = -6x + 5 +(9) so x = -6x + 14 2) get -6x to the side that has 'x' x + (6x) = -6x + (6x) + 14 x + 6x = 14 7x = 14 3) divide 14 by 7 and 7x by 7 7x / 7 = 14 / 7 x = 2 I hope this helps you :D
