Why is sexual reproduction important?

How do I click on the link?

OpenStudy (bioepic):

Just know that sexual reproduction increases genetic diversity, while asexual reproduction does not.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yes I agree it is to increase the variation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This increase in genetic variation will allow for a greater chance of survival for the species in some aspects, as the species can evolve into more suiting traits for their given environments, and immunities may be built up against certain diseases or special weaknesses. However, asexual organisms have an advantage of mass reproduction at a much quicker scale, and, even if their species is brought down to only one last member, the species still has a chance for survival.
